Saving Valuable Trees with Structural Support

Not every damaged or structurally flawed tree needs to be cut down. Many large, beautiful, historic trees on your property—trees that provide immense shade, aesthetic value, and property value—can be preserved safely for decades using professional cabling and bracing systems.

Stormy Tree Service specializes in the installation of these supplemental support systems. Our goal is to reduce the risk of catastrophic failure during high winds and ice storms, allowing you to safely keep the trees you love.

When is Cabling and Bracing Necessary?

Trees often develop structural weaknesses as they grow. We frequently install support systems for:

Co-dominant stems

When a tree has two trunks with a narrow angle, the union is inherently weak and at high risk of splitting.

Overextended branches

Massive horizontal limbs extending over houses are susceptible to breaking under snow or ice.

Storm-damaged or split trunks

If a tree suffered a minor crack during a recent storm, bracing can hold the split together and prevent complete failure while it heals.

How the Systems Work

Cabling involves installing high-strength steel cables high up in the canopy between major branches. These cables restrict the distance that branches can move away from each other during high winds, preventing the branches from snapping at the trunk.

Bracing is typically used lower down on the tree, often at the main crotch or trunk. It involves drilling completely through the tree and inserting heavy steel rods secured with nuts and washers. This physically bolts weak or split sections of the trunk together, providing rigid support.

These systems require precise engineering and deep arboricultural knowledge to install correctly. When done by our professionals, they are discreet, highly effective, and adapt to the tree's continued growth.
